How to get more players? Easy: make the game free, just buy the expansion

Literally… I know like A LOT of people who don’t play just cuz you have to monthly play… and to be honest I think it’s a very bad way of managing the game. Even Overwatch wasn’t released like that…. Nor do any of the most popular games atm

    F2P usually means instant death to games such as this. They start to focus too heavily on cash shop and other monetization practices and it is always a disaster.

  3. A F2P game has to have monetization in other places that directly affect game play. Be prepared for XP boosts, Purchasable currency for dungeons and pvp.

  4. You know, they want more players to make more money. So your solution to this is, nobody needs to pay anymore. Good thinking.

    No. This is how we end up having 27 different ways to still pay via upgrades, loot boxes, boosts, costumes, and other such nonsense.

    This isn’t happening any time soon. WoW subscriptions are completely carrying Blizzard.

    Remove the wow token would be a great start. Then release a currency called “Blizz Coin” in which you earn it from having a subscription ONLY, which then will allows you to buy store objects like pets and mounts.

    Less hate for the players who buy mounts, and now everyone has equal claim to those items, no matter how much money you have, or what your principles are about buying store items.

    That’s really the only thing that would bring me back into the game to be frank. The second the tokens were released the game was ruined for me. It gave my WoW time real world value i.e. 280k for hours and hours of grinding or barely one hour of work to pay for it. Grinding for gold was the game for me, and now that I can buy it, it has no value to me.

    My two cents.

  9. Oh thanks! How come nobody even thought about that before? I mean, 100% of the MMOs that went f2p became wildly successful right after! Think about it; Wildstar, Tera, Everquest, Firefall…

    I would rather they just use a bigger % of the sub money to add more content/ make the game even better.

  11. So, I just looked this up to confirm my previous thoughts. To play WoW, a player needs to create an account. This is a free trial. Once they add a subscription, they have access to all content up to the latest Expansion, currently Shadowlands. There is no longer a box price except for the most recent expansion. Total in US is $54.98 plus taxes.

    By comparison, for the same experience for FF14, the total is $59.98 plus tax. I understand that many people believe that a subscription game isn’t a good idea, but the alternative is a F2P model that involves many more micro-transactions just to play the game.
